Round 2 of the SimHookup IFM Championship, held at Road One International, brought alot of action to the series.

With the stange, short notice anouncement of one of the series’ original speed-demons, was not going to show. It was assumed that USteppin would have not competition. Race 1 proved very detrimental to that idea. By turn 2 Visceral_Syn was out front, and pulling away at a healthy pace, and continued to lead for the next 6 laps. When Syn pitted, he handed the reigns over to HumpheryB, who lead for a lap, with MugWa hot behind him. During their pit, Eric James took the lead, and takes Race 1 home. There was a ton of action in the back, but the leaders were so far gone, that was no concern to them.

Race 2 saw Visceral_Syn take the lead by turn 2 again. But this race USteppin would not be denied. Together they ran up a huge lead ahead of the pack. He stayed in Syn’s exhaust pipes for 5 laps, waiting for that 1 mistake.  That mistake was Syn pitting, USteppin took the lead, and proceeds to open up the gap between him and Eric James, who held 2nd. When USteppin pits, Eric James grabs the lead for a few laps. And, he pulls out an exceptional lead. During Eric James’ pit, MugWa gets to hold first place for a lap, but he still had a pit coming. And, USteppin was in 2nd. Once the pit happened, it was inevitable. Even with all the lead changes, Usteppin brings Race 2 home!

In the spirit of the World Cup of football (don’t correct me) I say we kicked off our season with four races at Algarve last weekend.

The GT Sports are sporting mostly Corvettes. The first race however was taken by a Spyker! In the second race three Vettes took over the top three with Lazyacer leading.

In the open wheeler group a pit stop was mandatory with a change of at least 2 tires. Pitting has to be done within a pit window which was lap 6 and 13. Failing to comply automatically disqualifies the driver. This unfortunately happened to Visceral_syn. He pitted for aero damage outside the window and assumed it would count as a mandatory pit.

Some took the minimum of 2 tires but had to fight the car over the line, whereas many changed all tires and were able to comfortably race hard. The added strategy will make for some interesting results in the coming events.

USteppin and Lazyacer both took 1st and 2nd place in these races. In race 2 SUR6E was leading but got distracted near the end and found a hard left where he expected a straight. He spent some time in the sand but managed to get out and finish in 3rd place both races.

Here are some pics taken by USteppin.

SHU seasons 5 and 6 kick off this coming weekend.

Don’t miss out!

We had a marathon of races last night. 5 laps, no qualifying, and just go from track to track. It was quite fun and funny even. Some tracks do have some issues, but with an honest group of drivers (and tools to check up on them :-P ) we can keep the current track list and get our season started the very next weekend. Meanwhile, we hope that more drivers will sign up.
