The Official WTCC Monza Discussion

New postby lazyacer » Sun Jan 17, 2010 12:25 am

So here we go.. Monza was an awesome race tonite and if I'm not mistaken we had the largest grid so far. This was event four of eight putting us half way thru the season already (wow). I lost most of the front end and had aerodynamic and suspension damage early on and had to adjust to the reduced handling just to stay on the track. I was hanging on in the middle of the field until a late stop n' go penalty on lap 15 dropped me another couple positions. By then the tires were shot to ribbons and with the added weight penalty it was all I could to cross the line and thankfully avoid a DNF.

So let's hear your thoughts/comments on Monza. What stands out in your mind, battles well fought, good times, things that worked, things to improve.. ?

Good idea Acer!

Seeing the replay it looked like carnage at turn 1 in the back of the pack. What can we do to minimize bad starts? Slash kinda clipped his own butt on an Alfa right at the start but still finished 3rd. Acer has been finishing in 3rd but lost his bumper and headlight before turn 1, so he ended up in 9th place. Quite a few people were affected by that mess. I almost got clipped hard by Dori124 in turn one, he just missed me and shot straight over the grass. My thinking is that we need to be less anxious to get in front of people that early in the race. The brakes are cold, the tires are cold, adrenaline is rushing, there is less space around you than probably any time during practice, etc. Go easy! The person that starts in the front is at a big advantage, but people starting behind should not drive like they have that same advantage. Post your thoughts and experiences so we can try to learn from this and make it better.

Speaking for myself I had a great race. It started with a good battle with Bretware, which lasted until he couldn't draft me anymore. It was really close several times. We went through the chicane side by side one time, and we made contact somewhere else, just bumping doors it looked like. I hope that won't be seen as aggression because I really couldn't see exactly where he was next to me and I still had to make the turn He was on the inside trying to outbrake me at the end of that bumpy back straight. Good stuff. Really enjoyed that.

The replay has been uploaded to the files area in case anyone doesn't have it all. No matter what happened, it was nice that many showed up and joined TeamSpeak as well. Thanks all!

Hi guys yes i enjoyed the race but stop n go put end to that,i was going with bayne in a chicane and give him to much room. But allgood next round is very hard on tyre's so maybe pitstop may help in that race.Oh i notice that dory124 did not get 1 point is that because he not finish the race ,have a look and see,thx by :D

Thanks for the race guys. I ran out of gas and I was a little lost when it came to pitting. I'll need to practice offline this week and figure things out before the next race. ;)

BTW = It was pretty laggy at the start. I don't think I hit anyone but sorry if I did. :?

Nice meeting you Harold and Surge!

As far as I know the server should do fine with this many drivers. I did notice that Dory was lagging bad, and he was up front by me at the start. This was his first time joining us. I saw him jump around a couple times and on the last lap almost rear ended him but he disappeared miliseconds beforehand. Then he left the game. I know he's in Italy, so maybe his connection is not good enough to join an American server.

Anyway, glad you guys joined us, more people more fun. I try to remind people about adding fuel after qualifying, but poo happens. I hope the experience will be good enough overall to keep racing :)

Lost internet shortly after the race due to the wind and rain here, which has died down now. I'm glad it held up through the race for me!

Watched the replay. I wondered what had happened to me in turn 1, lap 1. I was starting to drift to the outside for the turn entry and I got just a little nudge from Mugwa, so my car decided to go backwards past the turn! I was a complete passenger. Alot of carnage in that turn there.I went from 6th to 11th.

I thought I saw Cobra there, but I didn't see him anymore until the replay. He had a heck of an accident in the second variante and slammed the wall. I'm sure that toasted his car.

Chasing down Acer to the Ascari chicane I noticed he lifted early and let me by - I gave him a double brake light tap in thanks. I didn't notice till later his front valance panel was gone! I'm sure that didn't help his drive! We could've had a pretty good duel once I caught him if his car was in good shape.

Monza has that darn hard cutting rule. I got hit twice with it, but never got a stop/go. All in all, pretty good. Big field, too.

It was a good race and had a good time!!!!! I got lucky and never got touched, even in turn one on the start.
Still I was running good till i made a mistake on the last turn (braked too late) halfway thru the race and saw the beach!!!! Last 2 laps thought the tires were going to blow, but I did finish and oh what a time it was ice skating. Good racing guys :D :D
