First SHU Event Tonight!

Tonight we will be roaring around Brands Hatch Indy in heavy rain. It is the first organized event at SHU! Here are some pre-race details.

Driving aids are allowed and enabled by default. If you think you can manage 2x 20 minutes of racing on a flooded track without them, you can reduce or disable driving aids once you’re in the server. (Options > Realism Options)

We will be doing a 2 race format, which means that we qualify, which determines positions on the grid for race 1. After race 1, positions 1-8 will be reversed (based on race 1 results) and the rest will be placed where they finished. Then race 2 will start. Another 20 minutes of racing, and a second chance at scoring some points!

We have a custom points system which we hope will keep things close and competitive for most of the season. Competitive is good, but we want it to be clean and fun.

Any intentional crashing or disobeying the rules will result in a ban. Unintentional contact WILL happen. If you feel you were put at a disadvantage by someone else’s actions that could and should have been avoided, you can contest the results and we will review the replay and determine what should happen. There can not be any fighting or arguing over this, not on TeamSpeak, not on the forums.

Remember that a race is not won in turn 1, and that we all have to run the same amount of time. If you get behind, do not worry as it happens often that those ahead find a wall or lose time otherwise, allowing you to catch up. Plenty of races were won or lost near the last turn, never the first.

The track will be very slippery, and you will have to stay focused and brake very early. Please make sure you put on the wet tires, and enough fuel. If you haven’t developed a setup, be sure to check out the included SimBin Wet Setup under files.

Sometimes if you get into a slide and your front wheels don’t seen to help you turn much, it may help to apply the throttle just a little bit. Remember it’s a front wheel drive car, so if you go sideways, you can steer to where you want to go and floor it to pull your car straight again, carefully.

We will be using TeamSpeak for coordination. Even if you can’t talk, it is good to listen in. Server info is listed in the top right (3rd) box. No talking during the races though. We will be on early, and the server will be locked at 8PM Eastern Time. You will have 60 minutes of practice time, and 15 minutes of qualifying at 9PM. See the clock on the right. The password for the Race 07 server is in the SHU Crew Only forum.

I will be checking for late sign-ups, but if you miss the first race, don’t feel bad. Join us next week! Turn on your headlights, windshield wipers, and have fun!!
