It was a wet and wild night at SimHookUP’s Brands Hatch Indy last night. The crew was out in Mini-Coopers in a terrible thunderstorm. But, good troupers they are, they carried on their brave fight to the finish . . . . line.

Surge, Hbomb and I showed up early to practice and it was a battle to see who would break the one minute lap time first. Round and round we went. Down to 1:02 and change, but no one was able to do a sub-minute round. Eventually, we had to leave the server so it could be rebooted with the password.

I went off to practice offline and eventually ran a 1:01.550, but I forgot to write down the setup I used. I remembered I had forgotten it when I went to practice after the server was back up; typical slash-type move! But I did finally run a 1:02.3 and took the pole. I was on the pole! Great. I’m a terrible starter; I have no clutch and have to depend on clicking into gear at the right moment with the right amount of revs to get a good start, otherwise everyone passes me by like I’m going backwards or something!

Race 07 Update

An update came through for Race 07 on Steam and I have updated the server so it has the latest version. Since I have to start Steam in offline mode to run the server and at the same time sign in on my computer to play on Steam, it does not check for updates. So any time this happens, just give me a buzz and I’ll fix it. Thanks to Slash this time.

Tonight we will be roaring around Brands Hatch Indy in heavy rain. It is the first organized event at SHU! Here are some pre-race details.

Driving aids are allowed and enabled by default. If you think you can manage 2x 20 minutes of racing on a flooded track without them, you can reduce or disable driving aids once you’re in the server. (Options > Realism Options)

We will be doing a 2 race format, which means that we qualify, which determines positions on the grid for race 1. After race 1, positions 1-8 will be reversed (based on race 1 results) and the rest will be placed where they finished. Then race 2 will start. Another 20 minutes of racing, and a second chance at scoring some points!

World Time

We will base our race times on Eastern Time. New York is in this zone and the new clock in the sidebar will be an easy reference for everyone to figure out how many hours ahead or behind they are. When the clock hits the specified race time/date, you better be there! ;o)
